1st Indian woman to Scale Mt. Everest without supplementary oxygen

West Bengal’s Piyali Basak did just that when she embarked on a journey to conquer the mountains. The primary school teacher from Chandernagore became the first Indian woman to scale Mt. Everest without supplementary oxygen.

Basak unfurled the Indian National Flag after reaching the top in a gesture to celebrate her victory. In September-October of 2021, Piyali also became the first woman to climb Mt. Dhaulagiri (8167 meters) without any oxygen support.
