1. World Environment Day: 05th June 2018

World Environment Day is the United Nations’ (UN) most important day for encouraging worldwide awareness and action for the protection of our environment. Since it began in 1974.



The theme for the World Environment Day 2018, was “Beat Plastic Pollution”.









2. Govt Launches ‘Krishi Kalyan Abhiyaan’ To Help Farmers




The government has announced the launch of ‘Krishi Kalyan Abhiyaan’ under which farmers in select villages will be given assistance and advice on ways to improve farming techniques and raise their income. 

3. Govt Announces Rs. 8,000-Crore Package For Sugarcane Farmers

The Union government has announced a package of more than Rs 8,000 crore aimed to provide relief to sugarcane farmers and to clear their dues. According to a government official, the package includes three elements. A buffer stock of 30 LMT (lakh metric tonnes) of sugar will be created with Rs 1,200 crore.

4. MK Jain Appointed RBI Deputy Governor
The Centre has appointed MK Jain, Managing Director, and CEO of IDBI Bank, as the RBI’s Deputy Governor. Jain will fill a position that had been lying vacant since August 2017 after the retirement of SS Mundra.

5. French Swimmer Begins Record Pacific Crossing Attempt






A French swimmer Ben Lecomte has set off from Japan aiming to become the first person to swim across the Pacific Ocean. 







 6. E-taxi service launched in Hyderabad



An e-taxi service was launched in Hyderabad to mark the World Environment Day.The taxis will operate from different parts of the city to Rajiv Gandhi International Airport.The e-taxis have been launched by Green Mile.5 e-taxis have been launched on a pilot basis while within next one month 25 e-taxis will be deployed.One diesel taxi emits exhaust fumes equivalent of 25 private diesel cars while electric vehicles emit zero tailpipe emissions.



7. India’s first bicycle sharing scheme ‘Trin Trin’.



City of Mysuru got India’s first bicycle sharing scheme which was launched by Chief Minister Siddharamaiah.The PBS system will have 450 bicycles and 48 docking stations at major tourist destinations, universities and offices.‘Trin Trin’ in Mysuru is being implemented and operated by Green Wheel Ride.The project is run by the State government and was funded by the World Bank under its Global Environment Facility grant.The total project cost is Rs. 20 crore.







In Cricket, India defeated Thailand by 66 runs in Women’s Twenty-20 Asia Cup Cricket in Kuala Lumpur.  Electing to bat, India posted 132 runs for the loss of 4 wickets in 20 overs. In reply, Thailand could score only 66 runs, with the loss of 8 wickets.  The Indian eves will play Pakistan. The top two teams at the end of the round-robin stage will play in the Final.
